CABOT CLIFFS kept up his outstanding record in Germany when winning the only Pattern jumps race held in the country this year, the Preis der Regionsbeweger Listed hurdle on the third day of this year’s Bad Harzburg racing festival on Thursday.
Formerly trained in England by Dan Skelton, for whom he won three of his first four starts, Cabot Cliffs is now with top German handler Christian von der Recke, and having already won this corresponding race last year, Cabot Cliffs made it eight wins from nine starts in Germany here.
Showing the class that saw him land a hurdle race at Warwick by 17 lengths back in 2021, and a hurdle race over Thursday’s course and distance on Saturday, Cabot Cliffs, sent off the 1.3-1 favourite in the 11,111 Euro contest, came home unchallenged under French jockey Hakim Tabet by a massive 22 lengths, which co-incidentally was exactly the distance he won last year’s race by.
Following Cabot Cliffs home on Thursday was Nordstrand, who got the better of fellow Czech-trained runner Ivo for second. Nordstrand hails from the stable of legendary Czech trainer Josef Vana, who went one better in the second hurdle race of the day, the Preis der Harzer Volksbank eG. German owned and bred, the Vana-trained LA SALINERO benefitted from a positive ride from jockey Jan Kratochvil, leading from start to finish, and holding off the Von der Recke-trained favourite Master Debonair by eight lengths, with another German-bred Czech-trainer runner, Eisenherz, 31 lengths back in third.
