The death has been announced of FILIP MINARIK, the four-time German champion jockey, at the age of 48.
Czech-born Minarik, the son of former Czech champion jockey Ferdinand Minarik, established himself as a leading jockey in his homeland in the 1990s before moving to Germany, however it was in 2005 that Minarik came to prominence, winning the German Jockeys championship for the first time, whilst at the same time recording his first victories at Group 1 level.
Three further German Jockeys championships followed in 2011, 2016 and 2017, whilst further big race success came with four victories in the Grosser Preis von Baden. However, Minarik’s career came to an end following a heavy fall in a race at Mannheim in June 2020.
Although unable to ride following the accident, Minarik was still a regular visitor to racemeetings in Germany, and also wrote a regular column in a German newsletter.
Anglo German Racing would like to offer their condolences to the family and friends of this talented and hugely popular jockey.
